Integrity is gone.

Today walking up to the back of my 07 I see that the rear hatch is all pushed around the beauty bar.

It is push in about a 1/4 and dented on both sides of the beauty bar.

I figure it was backed into by a vehicle with a spare tire mounted on the rear because there is no scratches.

I have hit a car or two in parking lots before. I either wait till they come out of I leave a note.

Sorry to hear you were the victim of a graduate of "Uncle Sal's Park By Feel Academy".

If the paint isn't cracked, there's a possibility that a really good Paintless Dent Removal Guy/Gal will be able to pop it back out without having to resort to the standard hatch replacement/body filler and repaint routine.

And you're very right, integrity along with manners and common sense are gone, they've become as old fashioned and quaint as holding the door for someone and getting a "thank you".

Our society is twirling around the bowl, just waiting to go down.

Sorry to hear that - yeah people can be ash****s, and it seems to be getting worse over the years.

Hopefully it can be fixed fairly easily especially if the paint isn't cracked.

Ya know whopper, the NWF(Naughty Word Filter) doesn't recognize "Rectums"...So "Some people can be Rectums...." wouldn't bother it...or me one bit.

Because the person who pulled the "Hit & Run" on Lucky's HHR sure fits the definition of a Rectum.

I learned many years ago that it is much wiser and healthier to park as far away from everyone, no matter what. Even though my hhr is only a work vehicle, I have zero dents or door dings. Thats the way I like it. Walmart parking lot...forget about it, your just asking for it.

Mine was hit recently as well and the bad thing it was by an employee I work with. They knew they hit me and didn't come forward and tried to just get away with it. Thankfully the work cameras caught it on tape and I got their insurance info. My SS is going in the shop today to get fixed.

My liftgate was dented when I pushed on the beauty bar to close it and the luggage was not in far enough!
I now just start the gate in motion and don't follow through with my swing.
As for the dent a gentle tugging with my 4 inch suction handle pulled it out.

Sorry that happened, I know how frustrating that can be. As far as pushing the hatch closed, I learned early on to push on the license plate. So far so good.

Any estimates on the damage yet Lucky?

Gee sinabu, they couldn't have tagged you in a worse spot, the quarter panel is double skinned right there above the wheel well.

The bodyshop will be forced to give that a skim with filler, yup...the dreaded Bondo.

Oldblue has sussed out the "dent free" way to shut the hatch. Use the handhold on the right side, or the bottom 1/2" of the sheetmetal to get the hatch started with a smart "heave" and its inertia and weight will carry it the rest of the way home to the closed and latched position.

Keeping the latch lubricated will also keep the closing effort low.

That swing the gate slowly close method works well, both of us have adapted to it and so far no more issues.
