What’s wrong with the belt? That side does no work. It looks new. Prolly why it’s shiny. No sign of wear on the printing. If the shine is from drag, it could be a bad idler bearing. Maybe the belt was replaced but not the tensioner.

You evaluate these belts by inspecting the grooved side. Shiny, many cracks is bad. A few cracks is fine, per GM.

Esc active light now flashing

After changing out the intermediate shaft which went fine I took it for a spin to make sure the steering was straight (it is) but upon braking my esc active light comes on when braking it to a stop and is all wocky, message goes off but sometimes comes on under heavy acceleration but then goes off again. The only thing I unplugged was on the module attached to out put shaft of steering motor. I checked the abs plug on driver side where I took off the wheel, it's fine. Wtf did I fo wrong...help

Oh and it wasn't the intermediate shaft rattling, it seems like it's play in the steering motor output shaft. Oh and the esc active message goes off almost immediately after I come to a stop or let up on the heavy acceleration

Try a battery lobotomy, disconnect the negative battery cable for 10 minutes to reset the computers

You may have either bent a pin or just not reconnect good enough. That module is what tells the computer what direction you intend to be going, other sensors tell it what direction you are actually going.

Battery lobotomy didn't work...there's no way I could have bent the pins the plug just goes right in.

Figured it out

Ok here's what happened, after I took the shaft out me being Mr curious I slid that module off the shaft to look at it (BTW I haven't seen that module in the 2 youtube videos ivwatched). Apparently if the collar turns inside the module while it's off the shaft and is not recentered to its original position this triggers the electronic steering control. Thank God I had made a nice white mark on the module to line up the split in the shaft ((couldn't put much of a mark on the output shaft because the module was in the way). The white mark was about 5 minutes out of line if it had been a clock.

In the pic I'm attaching you can see the short line then a dot both now aligned as well as with split.

I took a screen shot of this video from youtube and as you can see there is no plastic module on the output shaft. Is that module something they put in later models like my 2010 or an optional upgrade package?

You got it, in later models, my 2007 LS didn’t have that module. My 2011 does.

It is part of the ESC system. Not all years have ESC. It does need to be calibrated or the ESC will be crazy.
Here is one of the many youtubes.
It is the "steering angle sensor" or "steering wheel position sensor".
