I would just drive it to work a couple days a week like someone else suggested so it gets some use and you can enjoy driving it.

My first choice of rides are my Harleys.. No longer too keen on heading out in the rain tho, getting older..

But do use my HHR Panel enough too.. I love driving it !!! It's just fun to drive.
I do however try not to just do short runs.. Never warms up the motor enough to burn off the internal condensation..etc.. After a motor reaches full operating temp, it should be driven at least another 1/2 hour.

So I like getting on the super-slab & cruise...Get all the vehicles juices flowing good..& mine too..

Winter here is just basically colder temps..

Ride it, don't Hide it..

It's one thing to properly "store" a vehicle.. Quite another to just let one sit..

I've taken to using the HHR for the long drive at least once, sometimes twice a week, and letting the beater car shoulder the rest of the load.

Last Friday I used the HHR. Near my work, a minivan started to come into my lane. I braked hard to back away from her, but it was raining and I slid on the wet pavement into the curb. My rim was deeply gouged, the tire was damaged, and the front bumper area around the wheel well got gouged.

The result: $550 for a new wheel, tire, and alignment. The detail shop said there's nothing much they can do for the scuff/gouge on the bumper, since it's plastic under the paint. Right after the impact, the car sounded funny when it rolled...an extra growl. I thought something mechanical got messed up in the front end, but the dealer said he didn't see any problems with that. But after the alignment and new wheel were put on, the sound is now even louder...a distinct humming growl that sounds a lot like a prop airplane.

I'm going to take it back to the dealer on Monday to see about the sound. I pray that it was from the misaligned tire slapping the pavement oddly after the crash, and now from the tire that has way more tread and is brand new "growling." It concerns me deeply, though...if I hadn't whacked the curb, I would think that it was coming from the engine or the transmission.

The ONE time I used the car last week, this happens. Great.

The growling may be the front hub/bearing assembly. It probably was damaged when the car struck the curb.

Would that be something that would have been inspected when they took a look at it initially?

You would think, but they clearly missed something.

Not hard to miss a bad wheel bearing if a road test isn't done.

My 08 HHR panel was bought a week before Halloween in 2007 with 7 miles on the clock. Just turned over 18,000, I only live 4 miles from work. I take mine on longer trips, but usually park it for most of the salt season. Got me a pre-rusted 89 F-150 for the winter months.

I would drive it at least once a week, even with idiot minivan drivers on the road. My panel has collected a couple dents parked in the driveway, waiting for warmer weather before I get them fixed.
