Those problems aren't guaranteed on all units.
I watched the dealers near me for months before I got mine, I think I got extremely lucky to find one less than a year old with 7k miles on it. I'd recommend an 09 or newer because a lot of issues were worked out with the mid-cycle refresh, and should still carry most of the factory warranty.

Yeah I didn't mind that. My biggest issues were the 06's are first year issues, Steering column, and the usual. Definitely don't want the moon roof. and they are out of warranty which means I will have to put $1500- $2000 in a separate account and "buy my own warranty" from myself. Which means I won;t pay over $8000 for one with more than 65-70K. There is a dealer who has one and willing to work with me. But he has to give me $11,000 for my Tacoma. Then I will make the deal.

Yeah I believe you...dealers around here not so much...Bring up cars.com and search 20036 100 miles and look at the ridiculous prices. That is why I have not budged on one. Especially an 06 with 60K "As is" I will say this. Used cars are high for some reason. My 08 Tacoma was purchased 2 years ago for $20,500 with 24K at a dealer. I was just offered $19,000 cash from Carmax and $19,500 cash from a dealer with 31K So it's all relative, All used stuff seems to be high. NEW cars are out of the stratosphere. A $36,000 Ford Escape...really? I would buy a 4 year old RX350 first

Heh, I remember the crazy stuff when I was shopping last winter. At one point one of the Dodge dealers had an HHR listed with a V6, and there were several HHR's with salvage titles at the ghetto lots, often priced comparably to unwrecked ones that were newer.

That would be a great deal around here today!! Any HHR with less than 15K is matched with a $15K price. Amazing prices for a mediocre discontinued car.
I love the look and the possibilities but there are still issues with these that will be an ongoing concern and expensive dealer fixes down the line. Sometimes I think a 70K vehicle would be a better choice than a 20K one as it is likely to have all it's large and little more common issues fixed.
