Just a thought

Seems strange you need to do this. I'm in Arizona with temps exceeding 100 degrees and mine cooled down to an comfortable level in about 15 minutes. Are you sure your AC is working correctly. Note....vehicle has been sold to a friend and he finds the AC very comfortable,,,still.

As a side note, I have use a thermometer as a test. With the AC on recirculate and on low speed fan after I have given ample time for the interior to cool down, the temperature out of the ducts is 45*, but take the thermometer and hold it by my chest and it can read 75-80*.
If there was a partition to block off the back half, the seating area would have a better chance of maintaining a cooler temperature.
As I said, this is a thought (a.k.a. science experiment).
And yes my system is functioning correctly.

Pick up one of those clothing hangar rods they sell that attach to each hanger in the back seat, grab a clear shower curtain liner and a set of cheap plastic curtain rings, and you'll be good. Trim it down to whatever size works for you. Should be able to do it all for $20 or less.

X 2, Should be colder, & my Panel floor level rear vents blow cold with the A/C. I think I could make ice cubes in mine.
PS: Great pic firemangeorge. I remember seeing it many years ago, then I lowered my front seats same way.

I live in Texas and it gets very hot in summer, note that the car is black also. However, I get so cold in our HHR that my ears burn like cold wind in winter.....I just can not understand how yours is not cooling like it should.
By far the coldest A/C of any vehicle I have ever owned.

Vent visors in all the windows. Leave windows cracked a bit.
Leave A/C on best settings when getting out. Then remote start 5 minutes before you leave.
Works great for me. Of course, if you are manual, this does not work!
