The electric steering wheel push button shift was on the Edsel, (58-59?) it never really ever worked well and was one of the things that let to its demise.

well, I guess i should have paid more attention.
my 06 HHR 2LT A/T has a dead pedal...it is actually a vinyl pad stuck to the top of the carpet on a pedastal next to the left kick panel. Feels like a dead pedal to my foot, just softer...

dead peddle
Sure would be nice if they did offer paddle shifters. At least on the SS. I've been driving sticks on and off for over 46 years and never heard of a dead peddle, though it sounds like it could be a welcome feature. Resting your left foot on the clutch peddle will wear out your throwout bearing. At least that is what I was taught.
