"late 2006" wheel change.

I ordered my new HHR LT1 today. GM cautions that the current machined aluminum wheels will be replaced as a mid year change in late (calendar) 2006for a similar wheel that is "painted silver mettalic", and I had to approve that either one would be ok. What are the painted wheels made out of? Are they still aluminum/alloy, or will they be steel? I have never had a painted wheel before. Does the paint chip off from road debris impacts?

I can't say that I really understand the difference between all the wheels, but I'll try and see if I get this right. If it's not...you can bet that someone will let me know.

There are 3 types from what I understand.

Steel wheel with hubcap covers that look like standard wheels.

Standard Painted Rims available in 16 or 17" (matte looking finish)

Polished Rims - available option (shiny finish)

The Spring Edition Victory Red came with Chrome Rims and are not available on any of the other model.

Ok folks...how did I do on this one? away

Actually Deb, the SE's are the only ones which are chrome.

Just did some checking at chevrolet.com and here are the results.
BTW Mike...I didn't say Chrome...I said shiny.

17-Inch High-Polished Forged-Aluminum Wheel
Available on 2LT models, this forged-aluminum wheel offers a high-polished appearance for your HHR.
It features a gold Chevy bowtie center.

17-Inch Painted-Aluminum Wheel
Standard on 2LT models, it features a gold Chevy bowtie center.

16-Inch Custom-Spoke Painted Silver Metallic Wheel
Becomes standard in late 2006 in place of 16-inch machined-face aluminum wheel.

16-Inch Machined-Face Aluminum Wheel
Standard on 1LT until replaced by 16-inch custom-spoke painted silver metallic wheel in late 2006.
See rim above this one.

16-Inch Steel Wheel With Full Bolt-On Wheel Cover
Standard on LS models, this 16-inch wheel comes with a gold Chevy bowtie center.

Actually you said

The Spring Edition Victory Red came with Polished Rims, but they are different from the other optional rims
They're not polished, they're actually chrome. None of the other HHR rims are chrome, only the SE's.

I'm not sure which are the replacement rims but I doubt that they are the ones from the SE becuase they are not painted.

OK...I have corrected my inaccuracy on the Spring Edition.

And have added a comment about what replaces the standard 16" rim on the 1LT. Anything else you'd like me to change?

That's what I had on my HHR until I replaced them with the American Racing Casino Chrome wheels.
Still have the rims...maybe I'll hang on to them for a while in case someone wants to buy them later.
I like them much better than the new 2006 style.
