i usually just use the plate to close it all the way..if not i use the very bottom of the door and push it.. i havent noticed any dents

maybe those with dents are slamming the hell out of thier doors?

Nah, I closed it with normal pressure every time. I guess from what the body guy told me there is a piece of metal in there to support the beauty bar and I must have gotten a weak support or something. I haven't seen too many people complaining about beauty bar dents though. NavyFlyer and myself are the only two members of this site that have had this problem if I remember correctly.

I usually just use the handle to close mine. Sometimes I will admit I do use the bottom of the lift gate. Probably not a good idea. But I will have to check for any dents though. Thanks for that info.

ya that handle pocket is okay, but Im 6'2" and it doesnt help me much. I use it to get about 3/4 of the way, then use the bowtie...guess I'll start using the plate now.

I use the pocket handle only, give it a good pull and the door closes without pushing on any part of the hatch door, 9 times out of 10.

This gives me concern if I ever have to replace the gas cartridges for the hatch. On my Firebird, w/new cartridges, the hatch was a bear to close until after a few open/close cycles. Although at present, the HHR hatch is easy to close. I wonder if in the future with replacements this denting might become a problem if the hatch becomes harder (like the firebird) to close than it is right now.

I got 'em I can't say for sure but I think mine came off the dealer lot that way. Doesn't bother me at all though can't even see them unless you look for them.
