Limited Slip Differential in Non-SS HHR

How useful would a limited slip differential (LSD) be on my manual LT2? It's available as a factory option only with the SS. The only ones for non-SS applications that I can find are Quaife and cost over $1000, plus the cost to install, for my Getrag F23 5-speed. Has anyone put an LSD in a non-SS HHR? I realize that manual vehicles in general in the non-SS are rare (in 2007, only 5%), and most of those are going to be base LS where price is critical, not specifically preferred by the driver as in my LT2!

I guess it depends on what kind of driving you're doing- also, I would question whether the 2.4 puts out enough WHP to warrant one...

Team Green Performance LSD

I just heard from them that they have a limited slip differential for my transmission. Has anyone used this brand of LSD in their HHR (LS/LT or SS) or any other application? How big a labor job is it to install one?

Do you have a lot of situations where only one wheel spins? Just not sure this is a good way to spend a lot of money that you will never get back out of the car when/if you eventually sell it.

Decision made: I will not install a limited slip differential

I will not go with a limited slip installation, either an entire unit (Quaife or OBX) or an insert (Team Green or Phantom grip). The insert is the less expensive way to go for a reliable part. However, installation is expensive since I am not able to do the work myself. With the 2.4, I have less torque than the SS and less need for an LSD. The final factor in my decision was that aftermarket modification to the transmission would void its powertrain warranty.

Thanks for the input from those who commented and also felt this was a bad idea.

I wouldn't call it a bad idea. Yes, it's expensive. But the whp argument is irrelevant.

My SS Supercharged is still bone stock motor wise, and i feel the nee for an LSD fairly often.

In straight lines i still lay down two black lines, but it's in turns where i need it the most. If you ever autocross, or track the car, you're going to want the LSD badly.
