Oh well the cardboard will be long gone when the hitch is still going strong.

2 years later...trailer done...too heavy for HHR,Cobalt

She don't need no A/C !!! I see another project looming....
As I stated 2 years ago "I see another project looming"; so it was. I turned my back on my cars, trucks, HHR...to build a little trailer for my wife (me, actually! ha,ha). I should've been done in three months (so I had assumed), but life has these twists and turns that I didn't plan on. So, 23 months (about) after I stated an interest (had thought of it for a year or so before the previous posting) I've completed building it, and road-tested it, and weighed it. It's too heavy for the HHR or Cobalt to pull it. I aimed for 1000 lbs or less as a goal, and ended up 438lbs heavier. I saw the weight climb as I planned extra features, and used heavier components than I probably needed, and knew it was getting too much for the little Chevys, so I never put a hitch on either one. I had planned that 1100lbs would be ok, if I went overweight, but not 1400lbs (with no trailer brakes). Oh well, the big trucks will have no problem with it, and we'll probably get a mid-sized Chevy somewhere down the road, so no trailer for the HHR after all (unless someone can verify that 1400-1500lbs is not too heavy for it to pull, and stop).

Wow! 1,400 lbs, you really built a solid little trailer, it looks great!

I think it's too much for an HHR to haul, but what a neat job you did.

Could you post more pics, like the interior arrangement and what goes where?

843de- Thanks! Never ask a trailer builder for more pictures...I have hundreds! We are like new fathers with baby photos. I posted a few in my gallery, so I won't use too much space (I also had trouble moving the photos to this post). If anyone wants to build a lighter trailer than mine, for his HHR, or of pretty much any weight or configuration, there are thousands of ideas and build photos on TnTTT.com http://www.tnttt.com/index.php?sid=6...343e7402963614. My stuff is under my user name "working on it", as you might guess.

Thanks for the link!

Been thinking about a little retro trailer to pair with one of the trucklets.
