LNF Crate Engine with Standalone EMS
Ok, lets say GMPP offered an LNF crate engine you could throw in a Civic, old rat rod, old golf, kit car, etc. and it came with a standalone engine management system so it would just be plug and play pretty much and it was offered at a good price ($2-4k) would you do it and make a track only car for cheap or what?
I wanna hear a lively debate in here or I'm gonna get physical!

We all have a Fiero that could use one. Mines a 1985!
I am sure GM will offer this engine as a crate engine as they have almost all the others including my Series III SC 3.8 all the way to the new LS9. Even the Supercharged Northstar is a crate engine.
The problem will be is GM does offer these engines they are not cheap. The LS9 is as much as some cars.
THe ZZ4 and other performance engines are cheap for what you get and are the ones they sell the most of. THe other engines are mostly there for thoese willing to pay.
I would not be suprised if they would offer the LNF in the crate complete but the price will be nearer $6,000 at the least. Keep in mind these engines are complete including most times the wire harness and computer.
$2,000 may only get you a new short block.
On the other hand have you priced a Roush valve cover latley? $1500.00 just for a pair of billet polished valve covers.

yeah, i would love that idea, but i agree that it would likely be priced around $6K as opposed to $2-4K. i know of a few people who would jump all over this if it actually happened. i have a dream of sometime making a turbo-4cyl. hot rod much like the E85 Coupe GM made, and if the LNF was offered crate with a standalone system, that would make for a perfect choice, without even thinking twice.

Well the Ariel Atom 2 used the Cobalt SS/SC motor, so an LNF version should be possible.

Unfortunately, the Atom 3 now uses Honda engines.
