Locking Fuel Cap
#11
I'd just go to the Chevy dealer and have them check on a locking cap for the last model S-10 pickup. It might even show up as fitting the HHR too. Even if they don't show it I know it works 'cause I did it. Actually the saleman did it while I watched. (That's how easy it was !!) The toughest part was disconnecting that strap that holds the cap to the door, then re-inserting the strap that's on the locking cap.

I purchased a Stant Part Number 10511. The problem is major interference between the top of the fuel cap and the fuel door itself.
The fuel door doesn't close far enough to allow the the "push to release" feature to function properly.

I think part of the proliferation of car jackings is because people have been told to just give them the car. I think there would be fewer problems like that if the theives thought they were going to have to fight the owner for what they were trying to take. We've made it too easy for the criminals to steal what they want and the consequences far too small.
That said I am using the Stant locking cap even though the tab on the fuel door won't allow the door to work as it should because I can't afford to buy gas for some lowlife, I can just barely manage it for myself. Last week someone siphoned about 5 gallons from mine sitting in my driveway. I am going to check the Chevy dealer for one that fits better but in the meantime this works.
