I'd just go to the Chevy dealer and have them check on a locking cap for the last model S-10 pickup. It might even show up as fitting the HHR too. Even if they don't show it I know it works 'cause I did it. Actually the saleman did it while I watched. (That's how easy it was !!) The toughest part was disconnecting that strap that holds the cap to the door, then re-inserting the strap that's on the locking cap.

I purchased a Stant Part Number 10511. The problem is major interference between the top of the fuel cap and the fuel door itself.

The fuel door doesn't close far enough to allow the the "push to release" feature to function properly.

Your comments are appreciated...........

Well having hoped you just might be wrong, the Stant 10511 does prevent the door from closing. But it looks to me that it the "gas cap hook" on the door that is hitting the cap and maybe if that was cut off or bent in, the door would close correctly. But before I give that a spin, I am going to try to return the Stant (I special ordered it) and if I can get a refund, I will try the Sonoma/S-10 one. If the auto parts store won't take the Stant back than the hook is toast.

Is there something in this vehicle that is worth your life? My answer is YES!

A bumper sticker I had on my first vehicle many years ago... along with the "Protected by Smith and Wesson"

I think part of the proliferation of car jackings is because people have been told to just give them the car. I think there would be fewer problems like that if the theives thought they were going to have to fight the owner for what they were trying to take. We've made it too easy for the criminals to steal what they want and the consequences far too small.
That said I am using the Stant locking cap even though the tab on the fuel door won't allow the door to work as it should because I can't afford to buy gas for some lowlife, I can just barely manage it for myself. Last week someone siphoned about 5 gallons from mine sitting in my driveway. I am going to check the Chevy dealer for one that fits better but in the meantime this works.

Okay here it is for the LT '08. THe problem with the STANT caps is their height. I finally go the Stant 11506 to work. (the 11511 or 10511 is too tall). The real trick seems to be the little (thumb size) piece of metal which protrudes from the fuel plate. Take both of your thumbs, place them on the tab and try to carefully push it in to the space behind itself in the fuel plate. The reason that it is protruding up in the first place seems to be to act as the focal point for the pressure fuel plate to push against when you open and close it. With the Stant 11506 in place you don't need it as the cap is large enough to act as the focal point. I carefully used a pair of pliers to straighten the curve first and then my thumbs. Either way, when you get that piece of metal pushed back almost flush into it's space the fuel plate will close and open like new! Have fun :-)
