Mailings from Dealers

Mailings from Dealers
Sorry if its been covered before. Quick search didn't turn up anything other "I took it to the dealer" type posts.
My issue is the amount of physical, USPS-delivered mail I have been receiving from dealerships. Since my HHR has only every been serviced at Chevrolet dealerships since I have owned it, and since i have moved more than a few times since owning it, I have experienced many different dealerships. And all of them have access to my most recent info thanks to my VIN in their systems.
I have received no less than 6 mailings from 6 different Chevy/GM dealerships saying "bring your 2006 HHR in and I'll tell you what we'll pay you for it. We need more high-quality 2006s like yours. Oh by the way, have you had a chance to see whats new for 2011? Sincerely, smarmy sales guy"
Is there anyway to make these stop? Its a waste of my time (not to mention fuel, trees, labor, etc) and theirs.
Actually make that 7 now. Just got one in today's mail as well.

They are hard to get stopped. Look how they are addressed. Does it actually have your name on it? If no, then you will be hard pressed to get it stopped. Just aobut all companies have figured out how to address so the post office will deliver it. Plus the post office wants to deliver it, with everything going electronic these days, the post office needs to deliver what they can.

Dealer's mailing systems arn't necessarily tied into the Chevy service info system. You address is simply 'grabbed' by their marketing software since you were (at one time) one of their customers. Probably the easiest way to stop it is to call, talk to their marketing person, and ask them to take you off their mailing list. Note: A lot of companies might use a mass-mailing marketing company for this, so you might have to call them.

If it is "standard" mail (not 1st class) then it can not be returned to sender. Buy the way-emails and other electronic media actually use more energy, un-recyclable plastics, toxins, and cause more air pollution in a round about way due to many power plants still burn coal, etc. Paper is renewable, recycles/disintegrates, the 3 year old computer you just threw out to get the latest and greatest doesn't. (And yes I am communicating via computer now, but all other correspondence is done via mail. It has now been rated one of the most secure ways to conduct business. The study showed you have more chance of your identity being stolen by having your wallet stolen than through the mail)
Standard mail for the Dealers (or most businesses & charities) is the least expensive way to get information to your home with guaranteed delivery. It goes directly into your mail box and you bring it inside your home. You may look at it and throw it out, but others act on it. Way cheaper than a TV ad that will only be seen IF you were watching TV at that exact moment. And even cheaper than Radio Ads which has the same problem-was the radio on that station at the exact time of the commercial spot?
Due to 9/11, terrorist threats and electronic media, etc, the Postal Service has let go almost 250,000 employees in the last few years. The government won't tell you that cause it would add to the unemployment figures.
Most people don't know but Taxes haven't subsidized the USPS since the early 80's. They only get paid when you purchase a service. The USPS is semi-private, not funded by the government. They have been fighting to go to 5 day delivery with Congress who will not budge-they are the only one to give the OK. There has also been a government mandate for the USPS to prefund it's retirement system way beyond any private or government business to the tune of billions. The government will not give the over payments back to help stay in the black yet Obama goes on great vacations.
If you started with the USPS after 1984 you do not get a civil service pension-you are on social security. I could go on.
The art of human communication is slowly disappearing. Very little face to face, very little actually composing a thought or a statement, very little use of the English language the way it was created to be. How many more times can you type "LOL" before it really has no impact or meaning anymore.
This Friday there is a national USPS internal teleconference where they will let everyone know (postal employees) the next restructuring which will release another 7500 employees into the unemployment ranks. Cheaper for you to mail a letter than to now pay someone a weekly unemployment salary out of yout tax money.
On the other hand the USPS has made strides in competitive pricing & service-doing more with less. The USPS actually helps UPS and delivers packages for them at the local level by UPS drop shipping to the local Post Offices. The USPS also works with Fed Ex and buy space on it air transport infrastructure.
Sorry for the rant but had too...

I'm sorry to hear that. What was your job? You work at the Post Office? Hope you can find another job soon... Maybe you can start mowing lawns again for a while. If you can't find another job for a while, I guess it could be something to hold you over. Good luck with everything...
