Maybe this is a stupid idea but...
...I was thinking about painting my spare set of 5-spoke steel wheels. Well, powder coating rather.
Here are the steels right now, just lying up against my HHR's wheels.
Sure, its not exactly a taboo subject, painting one's wheels, however, the manner in which I would like to do so is rather odd.
I don't quite know why, but I want to powder coat them bright fluorescent green.
Like...highlighter green.
Somewhat like this.
Anyone could paint them black... or silver... or let them pit and rust into oblivion-but I want to try something different.
My car is a boring ass HHR LS that came with some tacky 5 spoke hub caps on dished steels. I took the caps off because they rattled a bit. I've always loved the steel wheel look.
Why not paint the extra set of 5-spoke STEEL wheels that I got super cheap in a unique color that I think would look odd but interesting.
Even if I do it and it blows up in my face and looks horrible, I have the 5 spoke steel hubcaps with them as well. They cover the wheel entirely and you would not be able to see the rim.
I would love to hear other ideas on the matter. I don't want alloy wheels. They're not my style really-if that makes sense. I really like steel wheels due to their utilitarian aspect, ease of maintenance and simplicity to repair and cheap replacement.
I thought of just powder coating them gloss black, laying a green, yellow, or red reflective rim tape and clearing it in. Perhaps buy some other type of tacky hubcap. I really don't know.
Any other ideas or suggestions in the matter? I hope to get Pedders in my future so that whole skyjacked look should be well planted eventually.
Not many colors go well with silver. I really like the uniqueness of fluorescent colors on rims. I know a lot of Asian modifiers do things like that, but I've never seen it on an HHR grocery getter.
Thanks for your thoughts!

I am looking to spray mine black with a good coat of clear, and am in the process of finding a center cap that will fit on it. I believe the Astro vans or S10's used to have a center cap that was held on by the lugs but I'm not sure.
