Maybe this is a stupid idea but...

The five spoke steelies do have a slightly different profile than the older style steelies, but as you can see the clips on your average 16" chrome trim ring should be able to grab on just fine. Unlike wheel covers, trim rings have very little mass and I've never lost one in 27 years of having them on assorted vehicles, they just tend to stay put.

Look up djr1973 and check his gallery for his 2lt that he traded in a few months back...silver with a lime green just like that. Granted, it wasn't the wheels themselves, but he did have the drums done and some accents so that you could see what the contrast would look like. Just a thought...

After thinking about the wood idea for a while, it would look awful while rolling.

I absolutely see where that comes to mind. I believe VWs were the inspiration of the owner of these wheels. They were widened as well.

I am in the process of gettin all the stuff together to paint my 5 spoke steelies, lugnuts and hubs gloss black. I love the way they look like old rally wheels. And you cant beat black on silver, and $50-100 depending on the paint or powder coating you use, vs. at least $500 for a decent looking set of alloys. I am also working on a center cap to cover the axle nut in the front and the center of the brake drum in the rear.

I have been happy with my wheels, looks just different enough for me. (pic is in my gallery)
One strange part on those chrome rings though, they have little claws that hold them on - about every inch. And there is enough flex on the steel rims, that the rings "click" when you drive. If my windows are down and I'm driving slowly it's sounds like I'm being chased my tap dancers.
