So, if "those people" assemble something, it was done poorly? But if people who learned to speak "American" from birth in Detroit (but cannot be understood) build the product, it is better?

The wage is what makes the product! Karl Marx, were are you?

It is obvious that the higher wage the worker is paid the higher quality the product is. Remember the 1960's American cars? Rich Detroit working class - pieces of crap cars.

You're kidding right? Some of the best cars to come out of the US were in the 60's. Even the 70's had some good ones. IMHO the worst quality cars came in the 80s and 90s. Hell a 60s or 70s car could be down to one cylinder, missing 3 doors, smoking like a chimney, rusting off the frame and still be seen driving down the highway today.

And no, wage does not correlate with quality. Quality of product comes from pride. I work in rail car manufacturing. I make a very good wage for today's economy, and being in a union(USW), my coworkers make the same wage I do. Some of us(myself included) take great pride in our work, and it shows in our quality, while others on the same production lines don't give a **** and show up for the paycheck, and it shows in their quality. Some foreman and supervisors take pride in their product and it shows in what they let out the door, and you can just as easily tell the product of the foremen who don't really care.

A man grateful for his job and proud of what he does will always do his best, no matter how well he is paid.

No, ECOTEC is Euro but not Sweedish. ECOTEC was developed by Opel, a car company in Europe that has for the most part, been bought out by GM. They made this move initially to "try" to save Saturn. Since ECOTEC's great success in Saturn vehicles though, they have made their way in all GM Economy Class Cars. ECOTEC's are one of the VERY few motors that you can install both a Turbo and Supercharger application AND..... It's one of the few stock blocks, with proper water jacket (cooling passages) filling modifications, that can withstand up to 1,300 HP upgrades. I have seen the Saturn ION Dragster at the Bonneville Track myself.

I always thought that it was a Saab engine, that GM bought. But then, in this corporate world of VW sometimes owning Rolls-Royce and sometimes owning Bentley and BMW owning them at other times, and who knows what the deal is with Audi ......

The truth is the Ecotech is a GM global engine and was worked on in Asia, Europe and North America. It was not just a Saab, Opel or Saturn engine as they were just the ones who used it and contributed to it. It just was used first in Europe at Opel and Vauxhaul then Saab and the Saturn. The engine was even used in some other makes if I recall like Alfa Romeo, Lotus and others. This was really GM's first real step to global engines and platforms.

Along the way Saab did contribute some with the things they engineered into their version. GM picked them up and applied it to the others in the line. Also Lotus did some work on the Turbo LNF engine.

The engine is one of the best 4 cylinders on the market and is now just coming to market with a new improved versions of the 2.5 and 2.0. They are more quiet and refined. We will see more versions soon.
