Noticed that also as my 09 2.4 auto pulls 2600RPMs at 70MPH.

Thats one of the nice things with the ss's the rpms are lower due to the gearing.

What gearing are the SS's using? I know the LS/LT manuals use a 4.17 and the auto's use either a 3.91 or a 3.26(?) depending on year and if it's a panel. The 4.17 & 3.91 are pretty low already. So for the SS to turn that low, it must use higher gearing, not lower.

My SS has a 4.05(FQ7 RPO code). Turns about 2900 at 70mph.

If the OP's is an automatic, he most likely eased up on the throttle when taking the picture, thus the lower RPM's noted.

2900? Somewhere around 23-25 in my SS..dont remember exactly,65 is just over 2000...anyways..if your rpms are dropping off when lifting then your TQ isnt locked up..when it is locked up your running direct drive like a clutch...also the final ratio is different between the auto/stick too, meaning theres more to it then just diff gears.. final trans gearing plays in there

Yes it's time for a tune-up (plugs), to answer your question.
