Mirror mod for visibility?

I'm tall and would like to minimize the horrendous visibility impairment from the rearview mirror in two HHR's, both with the extra doodads that make the clunky thing even worse. The 2011LS has the backup cam. The 2008LT doe not. I'd like to preserve all the functions, of course. At minimum I want relocate them higher, and may a longer swivelly stem from another model might work? Anyone have experience or ideas here?

Edit - this is a real problem and not operator error. Am posting a pic and other comments below and a minor success, too.

I should have been more clear that I'm looking for suggestions for actual modifications to the car, perhaps a mirror assembly from a different model car with the same functions but narrower, or regressing to the narrower functionless mirror and relocating the buttons (and even the backup display.)

I know this might be futile but there have been some great ideas in this forum so it seemed worth a try.

Thanks everyone!!!
(And HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!)

Not really experience but many people don't know that the mirror will move in all directions pretty radically. I don't know if that's you. One member thought that the visors were stuck behind the mirror from the factory.
I'm 6 foot the mirror never bothered me.

My rear view mirror on the windshield is pushed up & is touching the headliner, which works fine for me, mine has the compass & etc in it.

I’m 6’5” and my mirror is swiveled all the way up, no real vision problems

Work harder on proper positioning. Not gonna do the Engineer lecture, but 95% of people don't position their seats or mirrors correctly, and vision is limited as a result.

Just try some different settings. Especially swinging the side mirrors wider. If you can see your rear fender, you're doing it wrong. That visibility is already available in the inside center rv mirror. I am not tall, but I have a 6'6" friend that had no problems, and he actually didn't want to get to rid of his HHR because it was better most at fitting him... He was football build too, not basketball.

That's why I like spot convex mirrors as well, one on each outside mirror.
I can see across 2 lanes of traffic in R side & still see the bottom of my rear tire when I park tight to a curb.

Haha, I know it's human nature to invalidate a problem because that's easier than solving it.
But here's a pic precisely from my eye level in normal driving position. (I used to slouch down in the seat but my back is too old for that stuff.) The mirror is adjusted as high as it will go.

Firemangeorge's link to a thread from twelve years ago (!) was most helpful. It led to a suggestion to slide it up on the mount. That got it up 3/8" or so, now (post-pic) practically touching the headliner and maybe 1/8" from the glass.

A really long stalk might help more, too. (Please see edit to my original post.)

Thanks everyone and HAAAAPPY NEW YEAR!

Have you tried adjusting the driver seat height slightly lower in the 2008LT ?
Power seats can make a difference.
