Mood lighting

So I just purchased my HHR. Love it!!! One questions, what's the little penlight like light (say that three times fast) streaming from the interior roof? Is it suppose to be "mood lighting"??? d:-)

when i was on a test drive the other day the dealer said it is so at night it gives the whole console/dash area a little bit of light so if you need to change the radio or ac or something it has a bit of light on it.

It is mainly, we have guessed, to shed some light on the unlit window switches.

I think it's actually called a "convenience" light. Some like it (me), some don't. Some have changed the LED out to blue, some have painted the inside of the hole black (dims down the amount of light).

I'm one of those who have changed the LED to a high intensity blue, and now I have a true mood light. It's great to have that blue glow around the interior at night. I would love to change it to a black light if possible to make the white on the switches to really stand out, but to my knowledge, it has not been tried as of yet. If I can find the right LED bulb, I may give it a shot.

It is for lighting the window switches.Federal safety law mandates illumination for all the important controls.

If its only for lighting the switches then why does the 08 SS with window switches on the door also have this same overhead light?

I've got a UV LED flaslight I bought on eBay, when my wife comes back I'll see what it looks like and let you know.

Thanks

A how-to on this mod would be great...if there isn't one already.
