Which motor is best for long life ??

Yes, both are fine engines. Any engine, properly maintained and taken care of will outlast the body. The worst thing for engines, in my experience, is having several different drivers using them (like rentals and fleet vehicles). It seems that an engine is happiest being driven the same way all the time.
The Colorado is FUGLY!!! They just got the S-10/Sonoma looking beautiful and then dropped it!

Just a slight correction. Lotus was responsible for the design and engineering of the ecotec engines. I guess GM decided to go to a company that knows how to put together a powerful and reliable four cylinder engine. Remember Lotus had their 2.2 turbo running at 300hp in the Esprit for years before Honda figured out how to get 200 out of their Vtec engine.

To all the Colorado haters...............
We just got an 09 and we love it so far!
Don't get me wrong, I still prefer our HHRs, but compared to my old 86 GMC S-15, the Colorado is perfection. But let's face it, comparing it to an HHR is not fair; truck vs. car. And no matter how GM, insurance companies, or DMVs class the HHR, it is a station wagon.

My 04 Saturn Ion Quad coupe has the 2.2 ecotec in it with 5 speed, it has 95k miles on it and I have never had any motor issues to date with it. All I did was change the oil regularly and the spark plugs and wire at 75k. The little thing still gets 34-36 mpg on the highway as advertised new.

Unless the car was a rust bucket, I think a water pump is a lot less expensive than a new car payment or new car purchase. Even if the car has 123,000 miles of the clock, a trouble free engine is a trouble free car.
