Environmentalist will tell you:
Less meat = less livestock = less feedstock for livestock = more food for alternative fuel = less use of fossil fuel

Alternative fuels are better for the environment. Less livestock also equal less waste. Less energy will be used to take care of the waste.

Environmentalist will also tell you:
A billion ways to be "green".

Being "green" is not doing just one thing. It's do everything you can within reason. A combination of solutions will result in a greener and less fossil fuel dependant world.

E85 crops (corn, etc) give farmers a chance to produce crops during what is mostly their "off" season. Although some may do it year round.

I would like to see some proof of this statement (in bold).
A quick googling digs up a few apparently unbiased links.:

Here's biased link brought to you by those who stand to make dumpsters full of money off ethanol production:

I am still getting the same gas milage when checking the DIC. Made a trip from my home to Lincoln, 72 miles mainly hghy. 33mpg, around town anywhere from 20 to 25 mpg.

I have 16" tires, and keep them at the recommended 30psi. And I use E10 blend ethanol. According to the owners manually this is the only ethanol blend you should use. I have seen were others said they use E85, but I believe it is not recommended for the HHR. and if not recommended, could, should and more than likely void any engine warrany.

I have read every single article and I am not convinced that ethanol is a bad idea.

2nd & 3rd article said it "may" cause smog. That's only if EVERYONE switched to E85. That is never going to happen, so Jacobson's point is moot.

The best solution is an electric vehicle recharged with solar panels. Yes, conservation is a very good first step. Maybe we need to divert the money to repair interstates and use it instead to construction high-speed rails? I'd travel by rail just to avoid airline delays.

If we would quit eating meat and driving cars, oh what a wonderful world it would be!!!
