My First Mod

can't wait for the "I remember my first mod" comments

But today I finally did my first mod to my HHR 1LT. I've had Patty for about a year and a half now and just installed a black chrome grill to her. The stock grill had a few paint chips in it, and the front bow-tie emblem was delaminating so I figured I'd just replace the whole thing.

Still have other mod's planned like radio controls in the steering wheel (if I ever get the damn center part of the steering wheel off) fog lights, and actual wheels (thinking either SS/TC or the 5 spoke 2010 malibu wheels). Currently it has the stock black wheels w/ hubcaps (16") on continental extreme traction DWS. Once I get the new wheels (17") I plan on putting continental extreme traction DW's for the summer and then use the current wheels for the winter...smart move?

here are the photos of before and after the new black chrome grill

Ever decide on ordering one up Kev, or are you still thinking of making it a DIY deal?

I painted the horizontal bars on mine flat black... Definitely makes my Fall Edition look a hell of a lot better without totally murduring-out the front end. More agressive-looking now IMO.

Love that black look!!! What kind of paint did you use?

I am planning on doing the same with my grill, but use Plasti Dip Spray which will hopefully stand up to rock chips ok.
http://www.homedepot.com/buy/paint-s...ay-192848.html

In Canada a local dealer wants $18 a can!!! When in Washington state a couple of weeks ago, I picked up 3 cans at The Home Depot for $18 for the three - $6 ea.!!

If the grill comes out ok, I have a set of ugly winter mags that I will do the same treatment to.

I had some black primer and also a can of black Krylon Ultra Flat camo paint. I suggest the OP, and others, do this mod. It changed the whole look of my car (in person)
