Opps Sorry...

I read to fast..."vice president global vehicle forecasts" WAS NOT GM.

But, it says nothing of the 93 day supply in the pipeline of HHR's. That is still the largest amount of GM vehicle of any reported (which I posted in another thread, from offical GM information). If GM's "normal" dealer inventory is 60-65 days, that does NOT speak well of the HHR's. I would be a happy camper with the 60-65 day inventory....that might contribute to some increased financial value of the HHR. So, I think it does display that the demand is small for our car.

Sure, dealers will have vehicles, but special orders are non existant at this time....so you take what you can get (or of course, place the order and wait to see how long it takes....with a nebulous delivery date).

I just think people are NOT looking at this realistically and allowing their emotions to forecast their decisions on the HHR's worth to GM. It has a SMALL place currently. But as configured presently, I would suggest it is the temporary 5-6 year gap closer, with the same life span as other GM slot fillers of previous years.

And remember, GM originally forecasted 150,000 units for the introduction year. Then lowered it to something like 100,000. Then again lowered it to something like 60,000...AND SAID THEY BEAT THEIR FORECASTED SALES FIGURE.

Pops...I'm not arguing with you...just "voicing" a concern and an opinion.

The first dealer I went to looked it up and said that I was limited to $1000 as you describe. My wife and I eventually decided on a different dealer. We accepted their deal and asked for the GM card rebate. The sales manager took the card, made the call, and much to my surprise the salesman told us we had approximately $2850 in rebate. My wife was pleasantly shocked as was I.

Prior to this purchase we had a lifetime redemption of over $4500 on that GM card and $1500 on a second card.
I got my GM card in 2004 and they made some changes about a yr ago but I still get the 5% but notice that the newer ones do not so if you get that higher rebate amount on your card, GREAT. Don't let them change it on you. I wasn't sure how long I had before losing any earnings so I sent them an email and they told me that the earning can accumulation for 7 yrs and then you will begin to lose them from the oldest month forwards a month at a time. I may have to find all my paper work when I got the card to see if I will get more on it like you but I don't see to ever have that good of luck.
I went and looked at my papers but it only said 5% earning. Now that new card GM has, is a Flex card and you only get 3% reward earning. Or if you choose you can get 1% back in cash with this card. That isn't all that great. Better off with a Discover card that gives a higher cash back amount if you want cash back .

I actually was in that situation where I was loosing rebate every month from the 7 year rule. I thought at the time I was limited to the $1000 when they they re-issued the card. My wife wanted to switch to a Disney card and is doing that route now.

No problem, I understand what you are saying. My guess is that GM aimed high with the HHR, was disappointed, gave a little seed money in the form of rebates, etc., and sales are now somewheres in the middle. But it's just a guess.

I think the HHR is in short supply as the following add for additional rebates does not include the HHR?

For a few short days, receive $1,0001 Bonus Cash on the '07 & '08 Aveo and Impala and the '07 Avalanche, Cobalt, Corvette, Malibu, Suburban and Tahoe.
Also 0% APR2 for 60 months for well qualified buyers on the All-New 2007 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab.

I don't understand why some want this car to be so popular. I bought it because it was not popular therefore an excellent value. If GM stops making the HHR there will be less and less on the road making it more rare hence more valuable to fewer people.

I'll bet a pristine Pacer or Gremlin costs more to buy now then when it was new!!! ViVA la Difference

High production models (Yes the HHR) lose resale value when orphaned or discontinued. Only Limited production but desirable models gain.

The Pacer and Gremlin were High production units and they command a good dollar in good condition. There are many unusual cars that were polarizing in their day that have great resale value years latter. I believe the HHR will be one if they only make them for a few years. A VW Bus gets good prices as well.

Unusual is good.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by special orders being non-existent at this time. Why would they be non-existent? Perhaps lead-times are running at the long end of their spectrum, but none of the dealers I spoke with made any mention of not being able to fulfill a special order within the 6-8 week range, nor did any discourage me from ordering one, even with an opt-out deposit refund if the vehicle did not arrive by a certain date, or steer me toward an one of their in-stock vehicles instead which would yield cash-in-hand that day.

Also, there may have been SOME method to GM's madness in extending the production pipe with a then, yet-to-be-resolved labor issue looming on the horizon.

Judging by how few I've seen on the roads, now at the onset of their third model year, I can't fathom that they haven't been lowering HHR sales/production estimates. There just doesn't seem to be many on the roads at all. In week-plus since acquiring mine, I've noticed only one other, and that's in the most densely populated State in the Union.

"Beloved" and "Popular" may not share a 1:1 relationship.

.
Where did they move that to? Growing up in Rhode Island we were always proud of that title (along with the widest bridge in the world)? Alas I heard that they lost the former and ripped down the latter!!
