My rental is a Dodge Caliber
BOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First of all some lady hit me last week damaging the front left fender, front bumper, left corner signal light, my horn was busted, and the left headlight were knocked off balance.
It sounds worse than it looks though. But to the topic, Geico went through Enterprise and my rental car is a freakin Dodge Caliber. This thing has over 15,000 miles, it stinks, its SLOW , it rides like a go-kart(and feels like one) and the transmission almost slips around 2nd gear.
It was like having my sexy, curvy, beautiful woman taken from me, and she was replaced with a futuristic boney smelly prostitute. simply that.
On the bright side of things my HHR will be ready tomorrow sometime according to the Abra lady. YAY

That was suppose to be a rival of the HHR?
Looks more like a rival of the Pontiac Aztek...
The new Dodge Aztek...

The Jeep Patriot is one of the cars I was considering in comparison to an HHR (haven't pulled the trigger on anything yet)...I could not get past that CVT tranny. I thought it was loud and it felt like it would downshift fast when city driving, like I was driving around in first gear on a normal automatic car.
Ugh...I hated it. So bummed...because I really like the Patriot, and don't want a manual tranny.

Without a doubt the Caliber is a complete failure. I did test one just to get a feel for the CVT. It's very mushy feeling by nature but it does shift when you put your foot in it to pass...there seems to be a quick upshift 2 clicks and then it comes down quickly to 1550-2000 rpm. I applaud DC for trying this technology out and I do feel it works okay. But the interior of the car is just so CHEAP feeling and the car is rough ride and that motor is just harsh sounding. Shame on DC for NOT developing world engine by now. The competition to the HHR I think can only be based on the folding front Pass seat...but the backs seats don't fold completely flat like ours does. Not even close...obviously I took a pass.

Well maybe it isnt slipping, but when I put my foot on the gas pedal while coasting at about 25 mph, the tranny gives somehwhat of a bouncy rubberband feel. All I know is that when my tranny went out in my 1990 geo prizm with 200,000 miles, it felt almost exactly what the tranny in the caliber feels like.
