I looked and could not find what you are referring to. Could you possibly post a photo of the engine with an arrow where I should tap into? Thanks. By the way, I tried using the PCV line. This worked on my last car, a Saturn. But I did not get any vacuum at all on the 2.4 motor.

Hey, if it makes him feel good - go for it!

Vacuum gauges are also Chick Magnets: "Ummm...what does that needle moving all around mean?"

"Don't worry Baby, that just means it's FAST!"

Ever since my first car, back in the mid 70's, I have always put one in my car. It is kind of my trademark. And it is a useful dx tool, as well as a way to monitor your driving (if you are heavy on the gas). Plus, I have it sitting on my workbench, and I need to get it out.

So, where can I hook it up? (Seems silly to just have it lit up on my dash without working).

There's a port that's capped off with a rubber plug between the #1 and #2 intake runner just below the throttle valve on my 2.2L, its real easy to get at. The value of the vacuum gauge has decressed with EFI...but back in the carberator days it was actually a handly tool when jetting and setting timing. Since the computer takes over these fuctions and the fact that it has self-diagnoistics that includes a manifold vacuum sensor its unlikely you'll catch anything before the computer does.

However to each his own and the fact that its been your trade mark is more than enough reason to install it in your vehical..good luck.

Maybe the 2.4 is different but I dont see the rubber plug you are talking about. There is a tire valve cap on a pressure fitting, but that is all I see.

That valve is on the fuel rail. It is for cleaning/purging the injectors during servicing.

I'll check later today and see if I can locate you a good place to pull vac.

The mastercylinder should have a vac. source. Got a Turbo Caravan(intercooled) w/ boost gauge, and efi, but a non-turbo application won`t be much of a show since the idea is not to move the needle in a non turbo veh.. If the needle is moving you burning more fuel/air.!!

I wouldn't tap off the brake booster line. Generally they move a higher volume/lower pressure than a traditional vacuum guage likes to see.

Try tapping this line:

It should give you good vacuum, however I believe that sensor is for the auto trans kick down modulator (if you have a 5-speed, you propably won't see this line), so be sure to test the shifting afterwards for any changes.

Hope it helps,

Hey Mike,

On my 2.2L with the 5spd it has this same setup. Big 'ol vaccuum line and the big funky box it taps into. Not sure what it's for. But I don't think it's to do with the auto tranny. Just my
