Well, I bought my HHR (2008 in gray) on Christmas Eve, when my Bimmer became way to expensive to maintain. I had a 2000 323i. Since July I spent about $3,000.00 in repairs, and on December 23rd, the check engine light went on... I said that's it!!! I always liked the style of the HHR since it came out, and just went and got it.
Man, so I love the HHR. So comfortable... but I do have three issues I notice:
1. Rear hatch seems to stick when it's closed for awhile. When you open it it makes a loud clunk noise.
2. When the weather is wet, the brakes make a clunk noise when released from a complete stop.
3. I get a creaking noise from the dashboard when I stop, and when I accelerate. This noise sounds like it is coming from the dash above the steering wheel.
Anyone else have these issues, and got them fixed? I'll have the dealer check them out at my first oil change.
Thanks for any info... and I'm glad to be here.

Welcome, and congrats on the new toy. I too am a new owner...bought my HHR on New Year's Eve. Unfortunatelym because I am such a new owner, I am unable to assist you with your 3 questions, but I just wanted to say welcome, and let you know that I think you found the right forum for the right car.

I have yet to investigate the brake set up on these cars, but it could be caliper sliders in a bind, or rear brake shoes sticking due to worn drum brake hardware.
I would advise a brake check. better safe than sorry.
