Hi, I just joined and I wanted to ask about the HHR. I'm thinking of buying one for my wife and was wondering what engine would be the best to get? 2.2 or 2.4? I have a Cobalt SS/SC and love the 2.0 SC and heard they might put that in the HHR but when? Any problems I should know about?

Welcome to the site!!!! Even though I dont own an HHR I would say that, if gas mileage is important, get the 2.2 It's a speedy engine and gets a little better MPG.

2.4! The 2.0 is in the So-Cal Bonneville Salt Flats HHR but I dont think Chevy has plans of dropping it in the production HHR. The gas milage is rated the same for both the 2.2 and the 2.4 - 22 mpg city with the 5 speed, 23 mpg city with the auto, and 30 mpg highway with both transmisions. The 2.4 is a little quicker, smoother, and better responsive. I have the 2.4. If you go by the numbers the 2.2 is 143 hp with 150 lb.-ft. of torque and the 2.4 is 172 hp with 162 lb.-ft. of torque plus it has variable valve timing. It also makes a difference what model you plan on buying. If you get a 1LT then you have a choice where as if you get an LS you have to take the 2.2 and if you get a 2LT you have to take the 2.4.

How do you have the sport suspension on a LS? You would have to have a 2LT to have the sport suspension! It's not even a option on the LS or 1LT and it comes standard on the 2LT. Check your build sheet and the HHR brochure. Unless you put it in yourself like how I switched to the Mach 1 suspension on my Mustang. Otherwise you have what's known as the touring suspension.

The HHR brochure, Chevy web site, nor did my dealer list it as a option on the LS. How much did they add to the base price for the sport suspension? Its not listed on my build sheet because it is included in the 2LT preferred equipment group. Its not an option on 1LTs either. The appearance package is standard on all HHRs, the lesser LS and 1LT get sattin finish like yours the upper 2LTs get chrome. If they charged you for an appearance package you got ripped off because it's listed in the standard equipment on the left hand side of the build sheet. Once again the chrome appearance package is not avalible on LS models but is a option on the 1LT and standard on the 2LT.

I have 2LT loaded, if I were you I would order the 2LT but stay away from alot of the add ons. If you order a LS just about everything is extra, ie rear wing(takes certain colors, put can be ordered later through Chevy), running boards, sport suspension etc.
The 2.4 is a great all around engine, I get 25-27 mpg with mine mixed driving mostly city. I also have the automatic, if you like standard transmissions, that can save you a grand. Before I bought mine off the dealer lot, I had one figured out to order and it came to $20560.00 and that was an 2LT. I just didn't want leather and sunroof, however the one I bought off the lot had all the goodies and it stickered for $23670. and bought it for invoice $22365.00. Do your home work don't let the dealer talk you into anything you don't want, rustproofing, interior treatments etc. that just adds money. Some dealers are cashing in on the popularity of the HHR and charging premiums, DON"T PAY IT !!!!! go some where were they will deal with you !!!!!!

I have a 2LT (thanks for not believing that I own a HHR! BTW nice comeback.). I did get the running boards ($445 option) and the Splash guards ($120 option) and they were ordered as options and not part of the appearance package. The appearance package is the handles, grill, liftgate bar, and roof racks if optioned ($150.). I may not know everything at 28 but I know alot about the vehicle I choose to drive. Age has nothing to do with knowledge, just experience! It's just what your saying went against my research. Sorry if I pissed you off! You should look at the HHR brochure on page 22 at buyers guide and then check your build sheet. The facts will speak for themselves if you don't believe a 28 years old. Maybe senility has set in on you. Just kidding!
