and now Gas leak

Ok, so noticed it earlier in the day that i smelled gas while kiddo was swapping batteries. but didnt see a drip or anything on the ground.

put gas in, drove to watch the fireworks, man o man, rear driver side tire you can smell gas really strong, buddy climbed under and cant find it dripping.

so we said screw it, watched the fireworks went back to the car and opened the hatch, and BAM in the face is strong gas odor.

so where would you guys start inspecting?

No direct way for fumes to get into the cabin.

You should have a CEL.

Somebody, a while ago, found that the PO of his car had installed a new fuel pump but neglected tightening the ring that holds it.

No cel at the moment. Only light coming on is Tc?

But yea for sure Andrew opened hatch and was like "wtf... that is strong" then noticed smell even stronger at tire.

we will have to start searching soon.

the PO we got it from... um... yea wouldn't know jack squat.. they are the ones installed wrong battery. Said super clean and if looks like someone threw 2 cats in with sand inside the car(took 45 minutes to sweep it). Oil was bad. Just poor abuse and neglect.

Could be fuel and/or EVAP lines... The EVAP line won't leak fluid. They are most prone to rusting near the rear axle, drivers side.

I recently had both of mine replaced... common thing in Ohio. Mine weren't leaking, yet, but very rusty.

if the is a puddle or staining from a puddle just ahead of the drivers side rear, the fuel line needs to be replaced. search the forum, this isnt that uncommon. look underneath and feel the fuel line - rusty? time for a replacement.

just had mine done over the winter.

Look inside that silver insulation sleeve , that’s where my vapour line corrosion caused pin holes and smell of fuel. No dripping on the driveway, just fuel odour.

you guys are awesome, ill tell one of the Mechs to look in that area to save me money on search time.

I know our wrecked one had to have about 2 ft of line replaced near driver side and tank cause they were pouring fluid out during Engine On

i will definitely have to check that..

new symptom, so wife took it instead of Excursion to 4h. Puts 20 in gas at 2.69per gal. Drives 3 miles and shes on E.... but the guesstamated mpg on dash is 18mpg....
calls me up and says she may need a gas can or tow, gets in the car and fuel gauge goes up to 8th of a tank... wtf..

maybe multiple issues?!?!
