OBD2 scanner which one to buy?

Equiis CAN OBDII
Im not sure if it was state or city but since your in california Autozone may not be able to scan free anymore. They were told to stop in my town.
Anyway if you dont hate Walmart you can go there and pick up the basic Equuis CAN OBDII scanner from about $100 and be good. You can get cheaper ones but Ive used mine just like from from walmart for years now and it all good.

I purchased an Equus Innova 3150. Does all newer OBD II as well as earlier models, hand held unit. Also include ABS brake coverage. Very simple to use. Comes with downloadable update program on CD via internet for any updates released after purchase. Highly recommend.

Since the OP was looking at something from HF I took it to mean they want something cost effective for doing simple code clearing and checking.
The Aeroforce (and others) would be a great choice if it's in their budget.

^^Agreed terryk! I was fortunate enough to fall upon one heck of a great deal on a dual Aeroforce that came across my lap, err screen, lol. But even a traditional handheld scanner has other benefits over the Aeroforce, especially if you have more than 1 vehicle: portability!

I'm not really an expert on this, but I've never heard of anyone having much luck from things from Harbor Freight... They seem to sell more gimmicks than anything. I bought one on eBay for $40 that was good, but it only works on the older cars. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the new cars use some other setup, CAN or something like that... I know my OBDII scaner doesn't work on the HHR, G6, or other newer cars... Just my Lumina and my dad's '01 Tahoe.

You paid a lot more than I did! $15 is a bit high now on EBay. Look into the ScanMaster app, it is more complete than Torque.
