Just put it on the dash vents and hit recirculate. The AC condenser only kicks in automatically when you put it on defrost, just like every other GM vehicle.

Ah don't you mean compressor? There's nothing to turn on in the condensor...

but the hhr turns the compressor on and off while your driving to keep the seals oiled so the compressor would be turning on and of even if the button isn't pressed
