Oil in the SS?

Quick Question... Does the SS require synthetic? I'm doing my first oil change on my '08 SS and have read the threads on it. Owner's manual just says 5W30. 4K on the motor.
Should I use Mobil with an AC Delco filter?

Look at the oil fill cap and they have Mobil One printed on it.

With all of GM high end and perfromance cars they all recomend Mobil One or a equal quality sythetic oil.

Sythetic oils are best to seal with the turbo heat and prevent breakdown. They just take a lot more abuse under extream conditions.

As for the fitler SC is fine. Some here will tell you all sorts of oils and filters to use but the AC and Mobile meet GM's requirements and will not pose any issue if a warranty claim should evewr come up.

Also keep good records of your oil purchase and when it was done.

Synthetic works in all HHR's and actually gives better engine life performance and reliability. Question for you. Have you ever had a problem with your 2008's brakes failing to stop properly upon cold start ups. Generally, I mean a very weak brake pedal that requires lots of extra "foot" to get stopped until the vaccum has bulit up?

ok. i have somewhat of a stupid question. with the synthetic oils being able to last alot longer, i have always wondered if there is a problem with the filter lasting as long as the oil without clogging up or at least slowing the flow a little? do you need to get a better filter or is the basic gm filter good enough? i have a 09 ss with only 1300 miles.

Did the oil change on my brother in law's lift. Dead easy. I will be getting ramps so I can do this at home. Total cost for oil and filter-$46. Don't know what it costs at the dealer. Next one will be more complicated, though, I want to rotate the tires...

I took my ss to jiffy lube for the first oil change and it was $76
I went to autozone and got the filter and a case of Q horsepower for $42. Do it yourself its easy as hell.

Remember that you'll have to recalibrate the wheel sensors for the air pressure! :) The procedure is posted on here and its in your owners manual though.
