oily residue in INtake manifold
2008 LT 2.2L LOTS of miles.
I just pulled the intake manifold off and noticed a large amount of sludgey residue in the ports, manifold and throttle body. Almost tar.
Do I want to hear what this might mean?
Does not seem to use oil, does use coolant, I use Synthetic oil. The EGR tube was not horrible. I am hoping that this is just a Synthetic oil thing. It sure does run better after I cleaned the ports and throttle body.

Some people have gone to a catch can to lessen this...its just the way the PCV works since the intake is pressurized. To be expected as there will always be some blowby with a pressurized system, the vapors have to go somewhere, and they usually accumulate. These engines work hard considering the HP output compared to its size so theres quite a bit of vapor to be eliminated.

I had the same issue with my 2.2L 2009 LS 5spd this weekend when I did some maintenance on it. Has 95K miles, so changed out the spark plugs, looked at the black hole that was my throttle body, and took that off and cleaned it. (I use Mobil 1 5w 30 syn)
My only gripe was my air hose was nearly torn in 2 by the Chevy tech I took it to to replace the Camshaft position actuator solenoid a month or so ago. (covered under GM powertrain 100K mile warranty) Will be making a visit tomorrow to see about a replacement on their dime.
