Talking

I'm not knockin the emergency service, I know it has saved lives , If you live in B.F.E. it would be a must have, I live and work were it's hard to be on the road alone, And cell phone service is always available.
And at 44 y.o. i have yet to lock my keys in a car.
If it's stolen , it's insured.
Just my 2 cents .

To each his own.

I locked mine by pressing the power button more than once. Yeah, it was stupid, the keys were in the ignition and I was just testing my handy-work on modifying the actual lock because it jabbed me when I was driving with the window down and arm on the sill!

I prefer AAA Plus. $90/yr covers service calls for any vehicle I call about. Plus I get free maps and 100 mile tows.

I like having the hands-free cell phone, so that's mainly why I keep it. Another reason, is the impending driver's license my daughter is getting. If she's in a serious accident (Heaven forbid) or needs help, she's one button away. That's some peace of mind for pappy (me).

I managed to lock my keys in mine within 2 weeks of buying the darned thing. two calls to OnStar (oops! sorry, your car isn't responding to our signal -- even though it was parked in the middle of a parking lot wide out in the open), they did call a locksmith, with an ETA of 1 hour 45 minutes. it was a half hour walk to my wife (who had the 2nd key on her).
With service like that, I won't be renewing, and will add the hands-free calling to my Verizon Wireless plan.

By the way, one thing they kept asking was if the motor was running within the past 8 hours (it was - 2 hours before), and thought that was peculiar. Did anyone ever get OnStar to unlock their car remotely successfully?

Was there cellular service available at that location (i.e. were you in a dead zone)?

I'm not a big fan of XM, but I'm waiting to see how their programming changes when the Sirrius merger is done. I might reconsider getting it.

Will they continue to sound lofi/overcompressed like live365, or will their audio be upgraded to digital hifi quality worthy of an expensive stereo investment?

You need an active Onstar account to use the hands free calling.
