Opinions on Years

After selling my second car (Saturn SW2), I’ve decided to replace it with another backup car. Then the thought entered my mind in all practicality, since I do love my HHR and it’s not going anywhere. Why not get another HHR?
it seems there are many practical reasons why to get another one as backup for parts, but also for interior and body panels, as they will be getting harder and harder to replace, should a fender bender happen (I hope not).

Are there any years I should avoid? I’ve thought about what I’ve read so far, and it seems that maybe it’s a good idea to avoid 2006? - was thinking because of the issue on the air inlet cowl above the passenger dash (tendency for water leak on the floor). Was this limited to just ‘06 models or was the metal not changed until ‘08?
Are there other models that have quirks that’s a bad thing?

(Anyway, here’s an 06 1LT that’s selling locally, and I’m curious if it should be hands off)?

Nothing wrong with an ‘06 just replace the butyl patch.

2009-up has VVT and master power window switch on the driver door. If shopping for an SS, try for 2010, they threw in almost all the bells and whistles as standard equipment.

If you want to be able to swap things from one to the other, best to get same year/engine/model.
2006 is not a good match with 2010, different interior things engines are not identical. both engines had internal upgrades over the years, 2006 2.2L is very different from other years. The door cards are different mounting, IIRC. The RCDLR is different and located in a different place. No TPMS, might not have or ESC or traction control.
Maybe other things, just off the top of memory.

If you have a 2010, look for a 2010 for spare parts but to replace the Saturn, that 2006 will do in a pinch!

I agree that,,all other thinks being equal, the 2006 2.2 is the least desirable, but if you find a nice one, take it. Condition is paramount.

I’m thinking that the way to go will be avoiding the ‘06, as my thoughts were exactly that, from interior parts being so different, to ECM and even wiring patterns to be so different. Perhaps if it was even an ‘09 or ‘11, it might not be much different. I also agree with the simple things like the central window switch and the different seats being like a different car inside.

i really appreciate the thoughts and input. I’ll be narrowing my search.

One last thought.. is the 09-11 series at least close enough to be a good match? I’m only thinking of availability of models out there.

thank you for that. If I had my druthers, I’d get a ‘10 SS, but there aren’t a lot of them left around anymore.
I’ll be happy with any LT 09-11 then.

I didn’t know about ‘06 not having TPMS! Is it only 06 or is 07 the same?
