An interesting new take on the OP engine, it will probably meet the same fate as others before it, too complicated to maintain in an economical manner.
There have been some other OP's that have tried and somewhat succeeded, but they're a minority compared to conventional engine design. I've included three of my favorite OP engines(all diesels), the first is the Fairbanks Morse 8 3/8 used in WWII subs and a line of diesel locomotives post war, the second is the Napier Deltic used in the Vietnam era Nasty Class patrol boats and the Class 55 locomotives of British Rail, and the last is the Commer Knocker used by Commer trucks in England. They are all odd in their own way, and they have a good deal of Rube Goldberg engineering in them.
