Over the weight limit ?

Good afternoon everyone. Taking a trip after Christmas approx. 400 miles round trip. Taking the HHR 2.2 Automatic. Going ahead and saying it I am a big guy 250 lbs and the other 3 going on the trip are about the same size. This is right at the 1032 lb weight rating showing on door sticker. With luggage going to put it about 1150 to 1200 lbs total I am guessing. Would this be to much weight on the HHR or would it handle it o.k. (engine/transmission) ??

You should be fine as the Batman said, just make sure to check your tires for proper inflation and any damage.

I would get the tires inflated to the maximum pressure listed on the tire's sidewall. The maximum rated load is at that pressure.

Make sure the tranny fluid is at the proper level and not overdue to be changed.

Other than the usual stuff like oil level and windshield washer fluid you are ready.

I'll bet your HHR doesn't even feel the difference and it would be a neat idea to keep mileage records and a topic of conversation when you return.

Have a safe trip!

Maximum pressure does not mean to fill it to that level. The vehicle has specific pressures. Do not change them.

These HHRs are not Ford Exploders

HHR at maximum capacity & over inflated tires (possibly 15lb over on each) for 400 miles=trip to hospital or worse.

Just my .05 cents.

You'll be ok as long as you don't stop at Sonic.

Been in extended discussions on other sites and I personally know an engineer at Goodyear involved in Indy tire development. The same group designs Class 8 truck tires BTW.

The load capacity of any tire is DIRECTLY related to tire pressure. The recommended tire pressure as shown on the door sticker is intended for average driving. Low speed in town, moderate speed at the limit posted, etc.

If you are increasing the load the car or truck is going to carry for an extended time, in this case an extended trip at highway speeds increasing the air pressure will make the loaded tires more resistant to road hazard and more importantly keep them running cooler.

Believe what you want....just my personal opinion backed up by a friend...
