Paint chipping??

I just DA buffed my car, with the new Meguiars Microfiber Paint Correction System, and put on a couple coats of Meguiars #21, followed by some Natty's(my pre-winter ritual).

Anyhow,

For the first time, I removed the beat up old plastic PPF film in order to buff the car completely. I was going to replace the film with some Avery Dennison PPF we have here at the shop, BUT...

Upon going over my car, I noticed the rear of my rocker is almost all grey primer, and my rear doors have at least 150-200 tiny chips each, which were all through the PPF film that was on the rockers and rear doors from the dealer.

What is the deal with the paint chipping on the rear doors/rockers? Is there a warranty on it?

I'm taking the car to my favorite body shop to get the "beauty bar dents" fixed, so I really would like to know if a stop at the dealer before I go there is worth it.

I have around 60k on my car now, I bought it new, and I have NEVER driven down a gravel road.

Yep, it all in the design. You have fenders that are flared out and guess what will catch all of the road debris from the front.....

This is no different than any other car with rear fenders that stick out and no rocker. Even the guys with Shelby Cobra's chip up the rear fenders pretty good. A guy with a real one here as bras for his fenders.

Rockers and flap are the way to fix it.

I complained to the dealer about this when the car was under warrenty they did nothing and were no help i thought they would add the protective layers
for free but no i would have to pay $65 for them.
called gm directly made a report they talked to the mgr and still nothing.
not a happy camper. not smiling....

Not sure if you bought this new or not but at this point I would say if you let it go to this point to where the paint is gone they will not get too excited about it.

You might ask and they may discount some of the parts for you at best.

As for SS Skirts note they look great but are a pain for people with short legs. You have to step over them and you have to make sure the people you haul learn to pick their feet up. Paint scuffs are common on these and damage can happen this way too. The Running boards will take a little more beating.

Note this is the price of the styling. Not much can be done when you stick the wheels outside the body. The SSR has similar issues as well as even cars like my GP and the new Camaro that stick the quarters out in the wind.

Mud flap are also a big help.

If you like the SS skirts better than the LT running boards, Yes....... Factory mud flaps need to be cut to fit the SS skirts. (nothing major, but they don't fit without trimming) Just the skirt won't stop all of this chipping, you will really want both skirts (or running boards) and mud flaps.
