Panel requires commercial plates in NY?
A dealer near me made an interesting statement about the HHR Panel. He said it would have to be registered as a commercial vehicle due to lack of side or rear windows. I never thought about it but he may be right.

In Massachusetts, if it's for personal use, no problem. If you use it for business, it is supposed to be registered as a commercial vehicle. Back in the day all pick-ups were considered commercial. About 20 years ago they changed the definition of personal vs commercial. My guess is a few politicians didn't want to pay extra to drive a pick-up on the weekends.

My guess is that in Ohio they also will be considered as a truck and will have to have truck plates either commercial or non-commercial. Both are more than a car plate. I know some people use to buy the big 9-12 passenger VANs and since they had side windows, they were considered station wagons and had car plates. Then they would take out the seats and haul more than most pickups.

According to California, every vehicle that is has a truck bed or is a like cargo van is consider commercial whether it's personal use or not. That includes the HHR Panel.
I tired to register it as personal, but the DMV rejectected the paperwork and made me register it as commercial.
