Possible Rear Wiper Mod

The rear wiper on our SS has pretty much deteriorated beyond use. I finally remembered when I has the car and had the time to stop at the auto parts store.

I decided to change out the wiper in the parking lot even though it was below freezing. I knew better, but I went ahead and did it. Of course when taking off the base cover, (#10 in the below diagram), the piece that goes along the shaft snapped off.

One of the things that has bothered be about the rear wiper is that you're no able to pull it very for off the glass when cleaing the rear glass. now, with that piece missing, the wiper will stay 90 degrees from the glass. The cover snapped back in place, and seems secure.

I'm going to watch it, and if it holds up, I'll make the same mod to the '07. If not, it looks like the part is under $5, so I'll just replace it.

The new rear wiper (Trico Exact Fit) works great BTW

There's a tab inside that cover that people have been cutting off to allow the wiper to stand off the glass at 90*..... I did mine. Maybe that's what broke off yours?

That's exactly what broke off. I searched before posting, but didn't see anything about it. I wish I'd known years ago

Cool!...... The cover stays on fine without that tab, so go ahead and do the '07

Did mine during very first car-wash, as I recall I just used needle nose pliers, grabbed the tab & gently snapped it off cleanly. No need for cutting.

time invested: 4.7 seconds

Car Wash Question

After modifying the rear wiper - has anyone had an issue when going through a carwash and the air from the dryers or the rotating brushes hits the rear window??? Just asking before I do mine - I take pride in hand washing and waxing mine, but occasionally I like to take it in to get all the sand/salt washed off the bottom.

I did that mod to mine as well....then I just removed the entire assembly (motor included), and filled the hole with a painted-to-match plug.
Now the sub-WHOOPERS have to pick on the FRONT wipers!

I'm the same way. I took mine in 2 days ago to get the salt crap taken off after the White Chrsitmas we actually had. Place I go to always tapes down the rear wiper.
