Personally I never place anything on the seats. I place things on the rubber floor mat on the passenger side or in the back. Also I never eat or drink in the HHR. I know that doesn't work for everyone but my interior looks brand new still after 5 months. I have become quite intense (anal) about keeping it spotless inside and out.
After hanging out with Todd (Uma) I have learned to dust it at least once a day and keep it clean with quick detailer. I went a month without washing it with water before the fires in So Cal made it impossible. Now the time change has me screwed up, its dark when I go to work and dark when I get off so this morning I got up at 4:30 and washed it before work as the sun came up I just had too!

You sound like me, TkHHR! No food or drinks are allowed inside the car! I never leave stuff on the seats, or even in the back of the car aside from when I am traveling. It's ridiculous, I know, but the HHR has made me this way. I was reasonably clean with my other new cars, but I'm psycho about this one. I mean, come on....I even scrub out the wheel wells when I wash it so there is no dirt or splash marks around/behind the wheels! How nuts is that?!?! In the hidden compartments in the back I keep microfiber towels and a spray bottle with distilled water in it in order to deal with splashes/bird attacks/those mysterious little yellow spots, etc.
I also experienced the fear of ash from the socal fires. One day after the car was coated in ash while the fires were still burning, I couldn't stand the thought of the acidic ash frying its way into the paint, so I washed it in the driveway as fast as I could, pulled it into the garage, and dried it in there so no new ash could fall on it as I dried!
I wonder if there is a psychological/medical name for this disorder I apparently have...

I was eating in my car all the time over the last 9 months when I was driving all over southeast Missouri, still no stains. I have made more use of the cargo net in the back more than I did with my Blazer, though. Keeps the groceries from sliding all over yonder and stretches more than you'd think.
I think women have more trouble because the bottom of their purses are usually filthy.
