Thanks!!!! for the information.... and the pictures!.... my Dad didn't believe that you could put a hitch on an HHR due to the lower design of the bumper.... so he now knows that it is possible.... sooooo I think I will be getting that hitch sooner than later!!!! one more question anybody use their hitch for carrying bikes.... if so do you have a 2,3 or 4 bike rack? Thanks again guys!!!

Mine will be a 2-bike rack since it's just me and the little lady for now.

I am in NC btw... thanks for any help... OH I have a 2006...

For anyone who's interested... I received my hitch and got it installed the next day. I chose to go to a trailer retailer (http://totaltrailers.com) here in Waukegan, IL. They installed the hitch for $70 which was literally hundreds less than both the dealer and Uhaul were asking.

I got my Hidden hitch and wiring from etrailer and the shipping was FREE, Installed both in less that 1 HR. Very easy to do both. Tomshhr has excellent photoes and I can add more if anyone needs some pictures to see.

How does that work? Do you buy the trailer, take it home without a plate then apply? Presumably a VIN is needed for the application?

In SC it's the same, small trailers (including boat trailers) don't reguire a plate. No registration needed. But keep that paperwork cause it does show ownership.

I just bought a trailer that was already titled. Simple title transfer for me. Also if the trailer is new the seller should include the necessary titling info. If it is used and isn't already titled, you will have to go through the process of claiming it was home-built or documenting where it originated. I don't know what's involved but I have heard that it's do-able.
