Quick question

I googled and searched the forum here to no avail.

Does anyone know what the front bumper made from?

Not the plastic shell. If you have ever removed the cover to swap headlight housings you know what I mean.

Thanks

Kevin

Are talking about the big block of white styrofoam underneath the bumper skin or the steel bar under that? That's pretty much all that is under there that I know of.

Not the foam. The bumper beam across the front seen here.... Is it steel?

Yeah, It's steel. It only looks and feels like tinfoil. I was a little alarmed by how "puny" it looked.

Yeah its steel Kev, and yeah it does feel kinda cheap too DoomBuggy.

For the project you're considering Kev, you'll need to have a couple pieces of steel fabbed up to act as backing plates, otherwise the bumper beam will distort and the bolt holes will eventually tear out.

That's what dad and I were discussing. My neighbor has a welder and does custom work. Plus he'll probably do the project plus the other half for a little bit of money and some blue sodas. ;-)

Just what is the exchange rate of "Blue Sodas" to cash money like we use here in Carolina?

Basically the steel of the bumper beam is the same thickness as the outer sheet metal in your fenders, doors, etc. So it will need some backing plates made up, I'd say something along the lines of 6" wide with four bolts holding them in per side would spread the load of your proposed project enough to make the attachment good and solid.

Blue soda conversion is not applicable. It's a good neighbor discount only. Restrictions do apply see neighbor for details. :-p
