Radar Detectors

Good for you BigDog. Ive got the BEL RX65 for 2 years now and hasn't failed yet. Not as good or expensive as the Valentine but plenty good for those not cannonballing! I figure if I sense them long before I see them, that leaves a nice cushion for any speed corrections i may need. Puttering along is not for everyone.............

I've been using a vintage Passport and it hasn't let me down yet. Very few false triggers. It doesn't do laser, but if you get that you're done anyway. I would probably get another or a Valentine when the time comes.

I dont' use one. I am sure I would end up getting more tickets, cuz I would speed a heck of alot more. All my friends that have them end up getting tickets cuz they get use to speeding and then the one or two times they dont' turn it on they get busted.

Passport here also.
If it were to crap out, then it might warrant plunking down $400 to $500 for a Val 1, as it looks to be one of the top units on the market.
Just as in using my GPS, I do not DEPEND upon a radar detector regardless of the quality or technology, but use it as another source of real-time information to help adjust my driving mode.
The trick is not to be the target, but rather to blend in, even if you're running outside of the legal envelope. The radar detector is another level of protection in this context.

passport 9500ix has gps technology which will autolearn and store false alarms, plus it notifies of red light and speed cameras. plenty of range and the thing hardly every goes off even in highway mode. if it goes off it MEANS slow down

Not knocking any of you guys who use one, but I personally dont. I feel that it wouldn't pay in my situation, because I don't drive enough, and I rarely speed much more than 5 or so over. Also, I am serious when I say this, but a lot of times I can almost sense when there may be a cop around.... I'm dead serious! It's really weird.....

Valentine is about the only one to fool with if you have to. It was done by the guy who did the original escort and passport.
But since lazer has come around none of them are much good. I have state troopers and city cop on Harleys jumping out from behind trees shooting lazer so a detwctor is not much good more.
THe only thing to do is let some idiot who is flying take lead and let him run blocker for you. If anyone gets it it will be him. But then you also have to watch speed traps where they have one car shooting and 5 cars to pull the speeders over.
Generally I find if you don't stand out too much they will not fool with you. 10 More MPH will not make that much differance.
You know in Ohio they give the leathal injection for anything 20 over.
