Radiator Cap hard to come off and put on???

Radiator Cap hard to come off and put on???

Anyone having problems taking off the radiator cap or putting it on... I have to use a strap wrench both ways??? I got a new cap and the same problems???
First got a Gates cap and it came off in paces so got a AC / Delco one and went on hard ???

Yes, I put a little copper anti sieze on the threads. Still not easy, but better.

I always had issues with the OEM rad cap, when I installed new coolant hoses, I installed an aluminium filler neck , problem solved!

You need to apply strong downward pressure as you twist it on and off.

Bad suggestion. Good way to break the filler tube.

I used a light coat of the silicon lube used on the caliper pins applied to the oring.
Didn't help much but it did help.

Once again greg8453 thinks HHR is a different car.
It is supposed to be totally air tight under 15 psi.
Don't even try it if the coolant pressure has not equalized after shutdown (that is what the coolant recovery bottle is for).

Why would anyone try and open a system under pressure?

Oldblue, thanks for posting the link, I've now subscribed to that thread so I can find it again. I'll order one when they come back in stock.

Part of the problem is, not just hard to turn, it's a tight, awkward fit getting a hand around that cap!
