Radio Antenna

The antenna above the windshield is quite short on my HHR (LT) I have seen longer ones on other trucks and wonder if someone put a short 'stubby' one on my truck. I live tween two radio stations and drive between them daily. It would be nice if I could lock in to a station and not have to switch half way to work. I don't park in a garage or overhang so height isn't a problem. Can I replace the short one with a longer one? what size do I need??

Thanks

The length of the mast only makes a difference for line of site to distant stations. What counts is the length of the wire wrapped around the mast (approximately 1 meter). The stock antenna is about 6 - 8 inches long. The amplifier is attached under the headliner. You can get longer replacements the connector is fairly standard for antennas. You could theoretically increase the distance by mounting your antenna to a stick any length you choose to raise it to get over the horizon a bit farther.

I remember years ago (when HHR was still in production) that aftermarket vendors sold short stubby antennas to make it look "better". I think they were 2 or 3 inches long. It just screws into the plastic part that sticks out of the roof.

Maybe you have one of those.

yikes $25.00 US then $38.65 shipping to me here in Canada!!

I know the production dates are wrong but the product is the same as fastsuv mentioned
My OCD demands I post 2006 thru 2011 are the correct production years.

I ordered an antenna off Amazon that is longer. when it showed up, it has a threaded portion sticking out the bottom. I unscrewed the one on the HHR and now I have a threaded part sticking out of the mount on the roof. Last time I checked, they wouldn't attach to each other. guess I'll try again.

Yes, you need to remove the stud from the roof mount, it was supposed to come off with the antenna.

Just go to a auto junk yard and buy or/and measure a stock one.to see how it compares to yours. I would try to make sure it is on a stock looking HHR or it might not be stock.

No scrap yards near by, the base on my vehicle does not even have the same size stud as the antenna I ordered. even tho it claims it is for an HHR. It also does not thread out of the base...guess I will keep using the stubby one untl I figure this out, or make one myself.
