Radio part number

The CD drive in my stock radio doesn't work properly anymore. Therefore I would like to replace the radio. The car (2008 2LT) does have the factory upgraded Pioneer system (sub and amp). The headunit's part number is 15951997, built by Panasonic.

If possible, I would like to go for a 2009 or newer stock radio with the USB port option rather than replacing it with an aftermarket headunit.

Does anybody know the part number of such a radio (2009 or newer, compatible with the Pioneer system)? I haven't found out so far. Is it possible at all or was the wiring harness for the Pioneer system maybe changed after the 2008 model year?

The sticking point is going to be the anti-theft system. Do you know a guy with a Tech2 and know how?

I know that if you get a brand new HU from the correct year it is plug and play; not so sure about newer year.

For the part number - see post 6, and read the rest of the thread as well - https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/gene...sb-port-27799/

Thanks for the feedback. I have access to a Tech 2, so VIN reprogramming shouldn't be an issue.
The main issue may be the harness. I think that harness/cabling are different between the non-Pioneer and the Pioneer version. Although both versions seem to feature pretty similar Panasonic headunits.

As far as I can see looking at schematics they are the same, just different names for the speaker outputs.

You sure? In the attached PDF (2006 version, I don't have any other) I think Radio w/ UW5 refers to the non-Pioneer version (speakers directly connected to the headunit) and Radio w/ UQ3 to the Pioneer version (speakers connected to the amplifier). Doesn't it look like the cabling out of the headunit would be different?

The difference I see is that there are "speaker outputs" on one and "low level audio" on the other. The plugs are the same part numbers, the Connector numbers and Pin numbers are on the diagrams; if I was interested enough I would compare them in detail, not just where they appear on paper. But, it's not something I'm working on.

Since the volume is controlled at the head unit, I am guessing that the amp treats the radio as a pre-amp and you could theoretically run the radio plugging speakers into the "low level audio" wires. Again, not my project or expertise.

I got hold of a used USB equipped radio (model year 2010 / SN 20788673), picture below. I was able to connect and reprogram it, but there was no sound whatsoever (sound works fine on the original radio). When looking at the connectors on the back, the interesting thing is that the connector on the right hand side is fully equipped with wires. The same connector on my radio (model year 2008 / SN 15951997 / Pioneer option) only has about half the wires.

Could that be because the harness is indeed different between the Pioneer option and the non-Pioneer option? Another hint in that direction may be that Crutchfield shows different adapters for the Pioneer option and the non-Pioneer option when connecting aftermarket radios (Axxess GMOS-LAN-04 Wiring Interface vs. Axxess GMOS-LAN-03 Wiring Interface).

Provided that the harness is different, the challenge is to find out the serial number for the USB radio suitable for the Pioneer option...

I am just guessing about this.

You can add an amp to any radio by just connecting the radio speaker outs to the amp ins. Why would this be different?
