bdubsee: How did you add the homelink garage door opener? It's not an option from the factory is it?

How about the rear sensors? Can you post pictures of them installed?

Thanks,

Mike

You are correct, Homelink is not a factory option. The easiest way to add it is to buy a sunvisor on ebay (from any car like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/96-97...spagenameZWDVW) that has the Homelink system. You just gut the ebay visor and fit the Homelink unit into your HHR visor (it just needs power and ground). I did this but I bought a visor from a Cadillac CTS (I think I paid $30 or so) that also had an electronic memo holder in it. Instead of mounting it in the visor, I mounted between the visors in the headliner (closer to power). It isn't the cleanest install because of my limited skills but it works like a charm. My wife had me paint it to match the exterior of the HHR (Silverstone) but insisted on the hammered finish as well...not totally my thing but happy wife, happy life.

EDIT: If you just search for "Homelink" on ebay there is seller that has is selling just the Homelink GDO unit from the visors for around $21.

Corvette Mirror with Homelink

I bought a strippo L/S and the stock mirror totally sucked. I really wanted to have the compass option so after looking around I got this one. It has Auto Dim, Compass, Map Light, 3 Homelink Buttons and Outside Temperature. I really didn't need the temperature feature, but I hooked it up inside the car so that now I know the inside cab and outside temperatures.

Here is also a couple of pics of the rear sensors on my ride. I opted for the sensors that flash while in reverse.(Thanks to Bdubsee for the placement again).

1. Swaybar - Easy to install, easier with some help. Makes HHR even more fun to drive.

2. Sirius Satellite Radio So you can listen to the Bolts beat up the Bears on opening Sunday

3. Wheels & Tires...On your ride I'd go with a set like Cheri has on her surf wagon but black with whitewalls, man I'm digging those. If I hadn't gone with my Giovanni's I would've went with those.

4. An amp and an sub, nothing too drastic, just something to bump until you're ready to go all out

All these are somewhat easy add-ons that won't cause massive migraines too install. They can be done by yourself but it's so much easier with an extra set of hands. Most of all, they will make your driving the HHR that much more enjoyable.

RUDEINC...love the flashing back-up sensors! The homelink in the rearview mirror is sweet though I am guessing a little more expensive than what I did.

Thanks bdubsee.....It's funny, I was going to go the same route that you did with the homelink out of a visor but than ran across the mirror and well let's just say I paid more than $30.00.....lol...
