Rear Backsplash of Salt and Mud

Rear Backsplash of Salt and Mud
I have an 06 HHR and really like it. My question may sound dumb but in the midwest we have our roads sprayed with salt and or sand. As you drive through this mixture, the "backsplash" covers the rear window so fast with salt that I seem to be going therough washer 2X a week. I have stock mudflaps. Any sugestions? Thanks alot!

I'm afraid there is not much you can do about that. Even with mud flaps and the "running boards", it still occurs. Also, until some aftermarket maker builds a better spoiler, don't think the stock one provides any benefit.
Generally, the problem is caused by the shape of the car which causes a vacuum effect that sucks the road grime to the rear hatch and window. Thats' why it is a precarious deed to drive with the hatch open (exhaust fume).

Welcome to the Board.
Yea, I've never had a vehicle that seems to collect dirt over the back end like my HHR does. Although it is white, but my Dodge Durango was white also. Oh well I still love my HHR though.

Lund may makes them for lots of vehicles, just not sure for the HHR. As soon as I find one that fits the HHR I will get it ASAP.

Rear Spoiler
I was thinking of putting on one of these ( 1 up from bottom right )

with the hopes of it helping to 'wash' the rain and dirt down the back window.
Does anyone have any suggestions ?
Thx

The only thing that is going to cut down on the dirty rear window would be some kind of air deflector. The current spoilers only add to the dirty rear window due to their design of "lifting" the air coming over the top of the HHR.

I think that is the standard spoiler. It does not help with the back window spray problem.
I think the only type that would/might work would be like the ones you used to see on station wagons or SUVs.
The ones that are a continuous curved blade (best description I can come up with).
