Rear Backup Camera?
Ok I have found Posts that say we are getting Backup cameras for 09 and some that say no. So what is the deal. I am Sure I was not offered this option when I ordered my 09 SS so is it another one of thoes things not available to Canada like the performance display? Or not availale on the SS?

longhornss,
FYI:
Randy,
Thanks for your interest in an Chevrolet HHR. The backup camera will be available across all of our models as a free flow option. It will be available around Dec. '08/Jan. '09. It should become available on the dealer checklist very soon. So keep checking and I anticipate early Sept. is when it will arrive on the checklist.
Thanks, I hope this helps.

i checked again today to see if there was a rearview camera option. nothing yet. personally, i don't see this happening on the HHR. GM has two different style monitors for the camera. the in-dash version won't fit. the HHR just can't fit this in the dash. the other style is in the rearview mirror. the size of this mirror is huge. i can't see GM using this in the small HHR because of safety reasons. maybe they have another monitor in the works????

It is coming and it will be in the mirror.
It only works in reverse and goes back to a mirror whan you put it into drive. No safety issues here.
It is the very same one on the Traverse.
The question on the HHR is price vs need. The small HHR really does not need one as much as a larger truck OR RV. If it cost very much I do not see many being sold.
Any average driver should be able to back a HHR up with out a $400 camera, were bit taking a big RV here.
Now if your willing to pay that much for a cool toy that is another thing and how many will be willing to pay?

Don't quote me on the price I just was using $400 as an example. I have yet to hear the price and suspect it will be more than $400.
If I was buying a loaded truck I would get it but if I has to pick and choose options on a limited budget I would have to choose the more useful options.

It is in the rear view mirror like it will be in the HHR.
I drove a Traverse the other day and it was a cool option to have.

We put a 7" Kenwood in our dash and a license plate camera as pat of the package. I love it. You can ge real close and not hit things. Way better than a mirror or even looking over your shoulder at times.
Plus we can tun it on while driving forward, change the aspect and then just use the screen for navigation, radio an DVD and more. Costly setup, but we liked it in our other car so we went with it. Did the new speakers, sub and amp as well. The whole shebang as it were.
