I just noticed today for the first time that the rear hatch struts on my 2010 LT are not opening the hatch fully, as they used to...I'm only 5'7" and bumped my head on the hatch today when I was loading groceries and not paying enough attention, ..tried it several times...same result...anybody else have this problem??

 

One of them has probably sprung a leak.... Look for some tell-tale oil seepage.

 

Just sounds like the struts are getting tired, since its a 2010 they should be covered under warranty with no problem. In the meantime, watch your head, those hatches hurt as you well know.

 

No sign of struts leaking...if struts are "weak" at only 9,000 miles, sure hope warranty replacement parts are of higher quality.

 

That would be nice, I'm on my 3rd set in 56,000 miles, all covered . but the next sets on me.

I'll get after market ones when i have to pay for them.

 

I've owned many Chevrolets over the years and have until recently always been a loyal fan...no perfect car has ever been built by any company...however, I hope I can enjoy this car for years to come as I can't afford to replace it, but if this is a sign of things to come, it will certainly be my last Chevy or GM product....in this day and age there really is no excuse for a continually problem plagued car and the manufacturer of such, rightly so will not survive long.

 

quality is good or bad - you have no alternative. Replaces and hope for the best.

 

I do not think that the quality of the car Chevy worsen fatal. Anyway, I hope so very much. I wish you to this little trouble appeared last.

 

I'm on my 3rd set of struts in my '07. None replaced under warranty. And this set has just recently stopped opening the hatch fully. Does someone make aftermarket struts for these things? I've never looked.

 

take a rag with 3 in 1 oil, with the hatch open wipe the shaft. This helps to clean and oil the metal so it will go into the cylinder better. I use mine for dogs and I have to clean and lube every week. Dog hair and dirt messes up the shaft. Same old ones from the start.
